This is a long comment, but I think it's important to understand the motivation for Putin's actions.

Putin is unwilling to negotiate because it seems likely his intention is to invade not only Ukraine, but also the neighboring non-NATO affiliated countries. What he is deadest on is attempting to restore the sheer power dominance and "sphere of influence" that the Soviet Union had at its peak. To accomplish this, he appears to be carrying out step-by-step, or is at least using as a reference, the plan laid out in Aleksandr Dugin's book "Foundations of Geopolitics".
Beginning with the section on Ukraine:
"Ukraine should be annexed by Russia because, "Ukraine as a state has no geopolitical meaning, no particular cultural import or universal significance, no geographic uniqueness, no ethnic exclusiveness - Ukraine's certain territorial ambitions represents an enormous danger for all of Eurasia... Ukraine should not be allowed to remain independent."
... and continues onto Finland: (which explains why Putin made comments about it being "detrimental" and that there would be "military and political consequences" if Finland or Sweden joined NATO)
"Finland should be absorbed into Russia. Southern Finland will be combined with the Republic of Karelia, and northern Finland will be "donated to Murmansk Oblast" (the northernmost region of western Russia)."
While I personally don't think even Putin is brazen enough to order a physical attack on Finland or Sweden (as they are both members of the EU), it's still concerning how aggressively he is making these threats. Regardless, even if only Ukraine is captured, it will extend the reach of Russia's influence deeper into Europe than ever before. Total control over Ukraine also means that Russia would then have access to warm-water ports in the Black Sea, and the logistical capability to operate the Sevastopol Naval Base at its full potential.
How much further Putin will be able to carry out this plan, I have no idea. I just hope this senseless war will stop soon...

個人的には、プーチンといえどもフィンランドやスウェーデン（いずれもEU加盟国）に物理的な攻撃を命じるほど図々しいとは思わないが、それでも彼がこうした脅迫を積極的に行っていることは気になるところである。いずれにせよ、ウクライナだけを取り込んでも、ロシアの影響力はこれまで以上にヨーロッパの奥深くまで拡大することになる。また、ウクライナを完全に支配すれば、ロシアは黒海の暖流港にアクセスでき、セヴァストポリ海軍基地をフル稼働させる物流能力を手に入れることになる。
プーチンがこの計画をどこまで実行に移せるか、私にはわからない。こんな無意味な戦争は早くやめてほしいものだ...皆さんの安全と幸福を願っています。
